Tanya Jade
Actor | Writer | Director | 1st Assistant Camera (Emerging)
Tanya Jade is a mixed ethnicity actor and emerging filmmaker from Perth, Western Australia who now resides in Vancouver, Canada. She discovered acting in 2014 as the result of a friendly dare and has worked professionally as an actor since 2016.
Most recently, she starred as the supporting lead in Reel One's Production 'Remembering Love' and Animal Mother Films, ‘All Joking Aside‘, which won the 2020 Cinequest New Visions Award, starring Brian Markinson (Mad Men, Fargo, The Killing) and Raylene Harewood (The Magicians, Charmed, Supernatural). All Joking Aside is available On Digital and On Demand.
After being recruited to write, choreograph and direct the Winter Arts Festival TV commercial for the City of Perth, Tanya acknowledged her growing desire to express her own voice through story. Tanya's narrative directorial debut was bilingual short film, Hóng Bāo, which screened at international festivals and was given 4.8 out of 5 stars by Indie Shorts Magazine. Currently, she is in post production for her second.
Growing up as a first generation Australian of Singaporean and Dutch descent, meant her representation has always been skewed. She became accustomed to not belonging anywhere, not having a category, always 'too ethnic, but not ethnic enough', which she has since taken in her stride through a unique creative voice.
Her writing and visual style stems from a desire to provoke questions in the audience.
