Manny Mahal

Manny is a writer, director, and producer of South Asian descent. He has created over a dozen film projects through his production company, Sital Cinema Productions. These projects range from documentaries to narratives, shorts to features, and even avant-garde. His latest feature as a screenwriter, Portraits From a Fire, won “Best Canadian Feature” at the Edmonton International Film Festival, has been nominated for “Best Motion Picture” at the 2022 Leo Awards, and is now streaming on CRAVE. And his first documentary, For My Father, is set to premiere on CBC and CBC GEM in the summer of 2022.
Several of his films have played at international film festivals, most notably the Vancouver International Film Festival on a consecutive run from 2016 to 2019, and 2021.
He was selected to be a part of the 2022 Pacific Screenwriters Program Scripted Series Lab presented by Netflix. He is a member of the Writers Guild of Canada, The Canadian Media Producers Association, The Documentary Organization of Canada, and The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television.
