Janessa St. Pierre is a Black, Queer Filmmaker and Actor who has lived on the unceded lands of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Janessa has completed one year of Film Studies at Concordia University and completed two years at Capilano University getting her diploma in Motion Picture Arts in 2017. Janessa has worked in the Vancouver film industry ever since in many roles including Production Designer, Set Dresser,Production Assistant, Art Assistant and Director's Assistant for Mimi Cave.
Janessa has a Writing credit on a short film produced her second year at Capilano University named Think Again. Think Again has won Best Short at the IGen Youth Festival in Miami. Janessa is currently emerging as a Director with her own Short film called Hair or No Hair. It is part of the Black Creators Edition Grant (2022) awarded and distributed by TELUS StoryHive and the Black Screen Office. Janessa has worked on a variety of Shorts, Features, Music Videos and Commercials including The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open, FRESH, Mariana's Trench, Colours, London Drugs, Burts Bees and more.
