Sylvie Faucher, LL.B.

Performance Artist · Writer · Poet · Independent Filmmaker

Sylvie Faucher is a "Raconteuse de Vérités": a multidisciplinary artist and activist of Anishinaabe (Nipissing First Nation) and French-Canadian descent. She practised as a human rights lawyer in Montreal before relocating to British Columbia in 2020 to pursue healing, decolonization and artistic resistance.

A proud descendant of historical figures including Jean Nicolet, Louis Hébert and Marie Olivier Sylvestre Manitouab8ich, her family lineage also includes emblematic figures of resistance such as Louis Riel and ten of the Patriotes hanged by the British in 1839. She stands as "The Guardian" of unsettling, long-buried stories.

Through her work, Sylvie excavates concealed memories, distorted colonial narratives and collective silences, from suppressed histories of Nouvelle-France to intimate family truths shaped by dual French and British colonization. Questioning a society built on systemic violence and erasure, she creates confrontational pieces that awaken, resist and reject the comfort of lies. Her art is raw defiance: a refusal to avert the gaze from untamed truth and an act of defiant awakening.
