Shahla Islam is a filmmaker and media enthusiast who has recently immigrated to Canada. She has completed MA in Film from University of Kent and Bachelors with Digital Production major from University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh. She has also studied comedy writing course from Sundance Collab and developed a feature film script as part of it. With a strong background in film and media, Shahla has showcased her directorial skills through four captivating short films and documentaries.
Notably, her debut film was honored with the Best Film award at the esteemed 3rd International Children's Film Festival Bangladesh 2010. Shahla's passion for storytelling extends beyond directing, as she has contributed her expertise to notable feature films like No Land's Man, Saturday Afternoon, and Extraction. Adding to her diverse experience, she served as a content strategist at Bongo BD, a prominent streaming platform, where she developed data driven content strategy for two years.
Shahla's commitment to personal and professional growth shines through her active participation in leadership programs across Asia, Europe, and the USA, focusing on media, environment, and diversity. With her startup Dream On, Shahla has spearheaded various skill development programs in the creative sector. When she's not immersed in the world of filmmaking, Shahla finds joy in traveling and volunteering for environmental cause.
