One of the reasons Giselle became a filmmaker was to center black female voices in front of and behind the camera. She wants to tell the types of stories that she isn't seeing on screen, stories that reflect complex, nuanced images of black people. Giselle is the founder of Orange Rose Productions, a company that focuses on telling stories from black communities. Giselle will soon be releasing her fourth web series, NOVELETTE IS TRYING. It is a comedy about a queer black woman’s struggle to stay in the expensive city of Vancouver. This project was developed with funding from the Independent Production Fund, CMF, Canada Council for the Arts and Creative BC. It was recently licensed to OUTtv.
Giselle is currently in production in her most recent short film AIN'T LOVE HEAVY? which was funded by the Canada Council for the Arts. Giselle is also in development on several projects including:
MS. DIVINE - a half-hour comedy about a frustrated black actress who pursues unorthodox ways of achieving fame. This project was part of the GEMS Emerging TV Producers program.
HUMMINGBIRD - a narrative feature about a family of black women navigating grief, mental health and loneliness. This project was part of the WIDC Story & Leadership Program.
THE GREAT BLACK NORTH - a dramatic feature film about three Jamaican-Canadian women who are fighting cultural norms and expectations while navigating sapphic attraction. This project was part of the Whistler Screenwriters Lab.
BYZANTIUM - a 1-hour psychological thriller dramatic series about a Black queer research scientist who uncovers a conspiracy at her workplace and faces increasing danger as she tries to expose it.
