Alex-André Bassett
Writer | Director
Alex-André Bassett is an IT Consultant by day and a short story writer by night. He is originally from the tiny island of Bermuda and has called Vancouver his home since late 2016. Alex grew up watching a broad range of kids television shows and feature films and playing video games (Nintendo and PlayStation). He enjoyed seeing how characters in these different mediums developed from the ground up and how the characters’ journeys spoke to the viewer's beliefs through creative storytelling.
During high school, Alex wrote various poems to help him process life until this took form into storytelling. Outside of IT and Business, his favorite subject was English and writing short stories from his imagination. He would share some with his friends and classmates and many of them were wowed by the depth of these poems. His fondest memory was hearing that one of his poems was added to the following year’s school yearbook and hearing from his brother that his school’s headmaster quoted his poem in a school assembly meeting.
When Alex was preparing to leave Bermuda, he wrote a short story / spoken word piece called ‘Redirection’ to process the loss of two key figures in his life and empower him to leave the island and move to a new country in faith without knowing how things would turn out.
After receiving a great deal of positive feedback on the Redirection story, he had the idea to adapt the story into an animated series. Over the last two years, he has written the script of a few episodes and worked with a friend to storyboard them. He is currently working with a small animation studio on a short movie concept to promote the story. Alex’s love for travel and video games (especially action-adventure and role-playing games), has inspired him to pull from a catalog of settings and content to create new worlds and characters for stories.
