Michaela Crook

Born in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Michaela was raised on the south shore of the TuCho (Great Slave Lake) in the community of Hay River, where she trained in snowshoe and ski biathlon for 8 years. Michaela has competed all throughout the North in places like Whitehorse, Yukon, Fairbanks, Alaska, and Nuuk, Greenland. She is a band member of the Norman Wells Land Corporation which is located in the Sahtu region of the Northwest Territories. Michaela currently resides in Vancouver, where she completed the Indigenous Digital Filmmaking diploma program at Capilano University in 2020. In 2019, she was hired by CBC North as a multimedia reporter and produced stories for radio, web and the Tv show, Northbeat. Michaela went on to further her journalism education at First Nations University of Canada where she received a certificate in the Indigenous Communications Arts program in 2022.
Michaela has excelled in a variety of positions in the film industry. She has credits as assistant director, segment director and associate producer on the CBC Gem documentary, KaYaMenTa: Sharing Truths About Menopause (2019) and was hired again as assistant director for the post-apocalyptic short film, MisTik (2021). Michaela was the cinematographer of New Beginnings: YWCA Pacific Terrace (2020) and lead actor in Last Meal or Breakfast with Tiffany (2021) which was selected to screen as part of the American Indian Film Festival in 2021. Michaela began classes at Anthony Meindl’s Actor Workshop in 2021 and was later represented by The Character’s Talent Agency (2022-2024) where she auditioned for noteable film and Tv productions. Michaela is confident working in a production office, the camera department, and as an actor. She continues to earn industry experience as she develops her own scripts for film and Tv. Michaela plans to write and direct her own projects.
