Jamila Pomeroy

Jamila Pomeroy is an award-winning Kenyan-Canadian filmmaker and writer based in Vancouver. She is a WGC screenwriter and internationally-published writer with a decade of experience spanning print, new media, film and animation. She also works as a director, independent producer and actor/host. Jamila has worked with over 20 globally-recognized outlets, namely, BBC, CBC, Telus, Hypebae, Network Entertainment, Amazon Prime, Netflix and more.
Her work across all mediums is known to be impact-driven, with immersive worlds that unpack contemporary social issues. Specifically, her work often champions historically underrepresented people and narratives, while generating both accessible and intellectually-charged storylines.
Passionate about building a more-equitable film industry, Jamila has led and been a mentor with film programs such as Netflix Being Black in Canada and VIFF’s Catalyst Mentorship Program; as well as being an educational speaker with VIFF’s Ignite high school program and various post-secondary schools such as Vancouver Film School.
