Ariella Horvath
Photographer | Graphic Designer (Emerging)
Most people know me as a photographer but I consider myself a creative - a lover and creator of many different mediums of art. With a BA in Media and Communications, and as a generalist, I work a graphic designer, videographer, video editor, and communication manager while I'm on the clock, but when I'm off - I'm an artist.
And as such, I work primarily in editorial portraiture. Specifically, the type of portraiture that has the ability to express the rawness, fragility, dynamism and beauty of humanity. My most recent capsule, "Black Texture" does just that. It aims to accurately and honestly depict ordinary people in ways that highlight deeper metaphorical meanings and realities for people of all types. While this capsule, along with my other work, primarily features others and hopefully relates to others, my work, in many ways, is just an extension of me and my reality. It's just one artist’s view of the world.
Over the years I've worked very hard to push myself to take on new tasks and learn new skills, and while I'll always be open to working new clients of any line of business, the last couple years have taught me what my strengths and weaknesses are within my creative capacity. It's crazy to think that only after a year and a bit of photography, I've had features in magazines such as Maclean's, Chatelaine, Lucy's, Vancouver Magazine, and more. I have a passion and drive for the art I create and can't wait for the new challenges, opportunities and projects that are still to come.
