Daniel Code
Director | Producer
Daniel Code has developed a career with a sense of compassion and versatility. Although his heart is set in showrunning and directing his own films for his production company Anthem Jackson, he balances out his work life as a producer and production manager for commercials, features films and documentaries. He has a drive to work on unique and fulfilling films especially ones that have him flying around the world and working in new communities with diverse people and filmmakers. He draws on his background in live comedy, tv broadcast training and social activism to write, create and manage productions. Line producing and production management for various brands including Nike, EA Sports, Facebook, Royal Road University, Adidas, Westbank, David Suzuki foundation and many others has given him a precise understanding of the advertising workflow and client/agency relationships. He also co-produced the award-winning feature film, “Kayaking to Klemtu” from director Zoe Hopkins and managed and contributed to two projects by director Sean Baker of the Florida project. Working alongside the Yes Men as a production manager for various projects and as writer and producer with director Sean Devlin has given him the knowledge and skills of working in high pressure activist environments. He’s also collaborated with a broad range of eclectic and talented individuals. He’s participated in projects with famed USA whistleblower Edward Snowden and was behind producing/casting for the hit PUP music video for their song “Guilt Trip” – notable as one of Finn Wolfhard’s first breakout acting experiences. Some of his creative contributions have been showcased in the Kunsthal Charlottenborg Museum in Copenhagen and the MoMA in New York.
As a director, he’s still finding his footing but working towards understanding the entire film craft to better his creative approach. His most recent directed project “Colour Study” for CBC gem has been enjoyed by many worldwide and been used as lessons in writing and visual design in university classes. His first short documentary “Nuts’a’mat Shqwaluwun” has been a venue for Cowichen producer and soccer coach Dano Thorne to promote his soccer club NIFA to Canadian soccer institutions. His large range of mini documentaries “Art Minute” has created a conversation around art in Canada. His goals in directing are pursuing feature documentary and narrative films while developing his visual style through music videos, shorts and commercial productions. He’s also directed a number of projects for his own personal LOL’s, including a music video with Canada’s Hal Johnson and Joanne Macleod as russian gangsters and developing a live masterclass with Tommy Wiseau after securing his first Vancouver appearance to a packed audience of The Room during the 2011 OLIO festival.
