Yared Gebrekidan

Yared's passion for film started during his high school years. Born in Ethiopia in 1985, his avid interest in film production developed into a career. He moved to Vancouver, Canada in 2004 to attend Vancouver Film School full time and completed his diploma in 2006. Since then, Yared has written and directed feature films, independent short films, commercials and music videos.
As an African-Canadian film maker, Yared face impediments in the industry due to discrimination and occupational segregation no matter his level of talent, passion or education. But he is determined to follow his dreams. He focused on constantly honing his skills by creating and collaborating with other talented individuals in the industry. As a result, Yared had recently reached the Quarterfinals of the 4th Annual Stage 32 Sci-Fi/Fantasy Screenwriting Contest for his new script “Dread”. He has also written three other feature film screen play such as “HEART JUMPERS”, “KING TEWDROS” and “THE REMENANT”.
In 2019, Yared won two awards and was nominated twice for Best Storyteller and Best Eye at California Music Video Festival, Charlotte Film Festival and Global Music Video Festival. Yared is also a full Union Member in the Sound Department for over seven years. Yared has mixed and boom for shows like "Chesapeake Shores S2", "SEE", "Descendant 2", "Once Upon a Time", “Helstrom", “Supergirl" and many more including commercials and EPK's. His experience aligns well with the qualifications as Film and TV Director. With more than 14 years’ experience, he is adept in script writing and editing, team building and development. Moreover, his on-the-job experience has afforded him a well-rounded skill set.
