Contact

Mimi is a versatile filmmaker with over a decade of experience in the film and television industry. Her exploration of different roles, from producer’s assistant to post-production coordinator, shaped her distinct perspective as a storyteller. Growing up in Canada as a child of Ethiopian immigrants, Mimi brings a unique lens to her work, crafting narratives that explore identity, heritage, and the complexity of being human.

Her directorial debut, Driving To You, premiered at the Vancouver Queer Film Festival in 2013. A decade later, after gaining more experience as a producer, she returned to her craft as a director with Jackie’s Haven, an ambitious hybrid animation that examines grief from the perspective of a young Chinese-Canadian girl, blending her cultural introspection with visual innovation.

In 2024, Mimi was selected for the GEMS Emerging TV Producer’s Program with her latest project, Uncharted Identity, a TV series she wrote. Also in 2024, she was selected for the Black Futures Retreat, hosted by Black Women Film! Canada, and was selected to be a delegate for the EXNW Summit, further establishing her role as a rising voice in the industry. Alongside her independent work, she continues to work on large-scale union projects in set decoration, balancing her passion for intimate, character-driven stories with her expertise in high-profile productions.
