When I was 9, I had a TV show change my life. It combined stories about war, female rights, character nuance and growth, beautiful animation, and was a tool for social change. It made people think differently about this world. It spoke to all ages. It was simple. It was Avatar: The Last Airbender. It may seem so juvenile, but it’s something I’ve liked since I was 9, and I still love it to this day. I can’t help laughing when I watch it because it’s nostalgic. It speaks to and validates everything I felt when I was younger.
The amazing thing about media is its ability to express opinions, feelings, or ideas and share them with the world. I love media production because it’s visual, combines graphic design, website design, writing, costume, and production design to create a single piece. It’s because of this that I love storytelling. The power to tell a story through various platforms; being able to make a single cut. Or place music at an exact moment, or create the perfect pacing can change how someone views a scene and impact how they feel. I like the process of finding that moment.
Flash forward to now – I’m an aspiring Animatic Editor with a passion for telling compelling stories that change people, motivate them to unleash their imagination, and empower them to believe that all things are possible, even when they feel like they are not.
In the last decade, I’ve had the privilege to work as a Picture Editor and Assistant Picture Editor on narrative short films and television shows, documentaries, sizzle reels, YouTube videos and corporate videos.
