Sharon Lewis recently garnered a Canadian Screen Award shared nomination for Best Director for a new format diverse multicultural children’s tv series, It’s My Party. Sharon broke out with her afrofuturist award winning film Brown Girl Begins, earning a double CSA nomination which continues to air on Hulu, Amazon, HBO and recently screened “back home” on the Trinidad and Tobago tv network.
She continues to work as a showrunner and director for docu-drama series and has directed over 100 hours of popular television including the one hour drama, Diggstown. Her feature film documentary about the first openly gay, black conductor in Canada called Disruptor/Conductor was ground breaking for the orchestral world and continues to air on CBC Gem.
Sharon was one of the selects for the prestigious TIFF writers lab to develop her next feature, adapted from her published play, ‘Sistahs’. Sharon is currently in post production with Jesus made me happy and…gay, a feature documentary that brings a global perspective with intimate, funny, heartbreaking stories of survival after conversion therapy. Sharon is also in development on her neo noir black lesbian detective series, called SPADE.
